Sustainable Development Goals: Martins & Eno Acha Foundation embark on outreach to IDPs camps

The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals otherwise known as Global Goals have been brought to the fore by the international organization for countries to adopt, advance and promote. Due to insurgency in the North East of Nigeria, a lot of people have lost their homes, moved out of their communities and constantly lack the basic needs to survive. Two non-profit organisations, International Initiatives for Advancement of SDGs in Africa (IIASDG) and Martins & Eno Acha Foundation in line with the SDGs 1, 12 and 13 collaborated to organise a Clothing Drive at the Internally Displaced Persons Camp, Karon Majigi, Abuja. The event was tagged Clothe For Smile Campaign.

According to the co-founders of IIASDG Chuks Anyaduba and Ugo Ejidoh, the aim of the event is to reach out to the needy in society through the event and what better place to run such campaign than where displaced persons reside. The project received donation of neatly used cloths which were washed, dry cleaned and put in a good condition before giving out. Chuks Anyaduba who is an SDG advocate stated thus  ‘the vision of IIASDG is to touch lives one at a time, leaving no one behind’. Public & Environmental health expert, Ugo Ejidoh highlighted on the need for putting on good clothes particularly in times of harsh weather.

The co-founders of Martins & Eno Acha Foundation, Ambassador Martins Acha and Enosadeba Acha stated that, “providing sustainable living support to the needy and disaster victims give us utmost satisfaction. Our vision is to support less privileged families and that is why we are focusing on Clothing Support, Education Support, Capacity Building, Women Empowerment and Disaster Relief. We align with the Sustainable Development Goals to advance development in Africa particularly Nigeria”, said Martins Acha.

The event was well attended and had passionate volunteers such as Nora Okolo, Princess Onochie, Chike Enwezor, Favour Akubo, to mention but a few.
